It is an unfortunate truth that as we age we lose the youthful contours and plumpness that our skin once had. To slow the visibility of this process, dermal fillers are an excellent and safe way to maintain volume in our skin and continue looking youthful.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are professionally injected natural solutions – often replenishing elements that our skin has slowed production of but are needed to keep wrinkles and facial folds at bay. They can be complex sugars, collagen, or even acids.

Dermal fillers promote normal functions that our skin cells were capable of when we were younger. For example, administering a complex sugar to problem areas attracts and holds water. This in turn improves hydration and assists collagen in its attempt to provide structure and elasticity to the skin and reducing the severity of wrinkles.

Where can dermal fillers help me?

Dermal fillers are predominantly used on the face, but can also be applied to the throat and hands as these areas are prone to wrinkling just as the face is.

Face

Lips

As our skin begins to age, the mouth area begins to lose a plumpness that it once had. Lips begin to recede and wrinkles deepen towards the lips. Injecting a dermal filler that restores volume and reduces the intensity of these wrinkles helps our patients remain looking their youthful selves.

Frown lines

One of the first places wrinkles show up are on the forehead and around the eyes due to years of expression in this region. A combination of dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxers can reverse these signs temporarily for smoother skin.

Cheeks

Dermal fillers can replenish the volume and definition our cheeks have lost over the years.

Cheeks begin to droop once this volume is lost and can result in a nasolabial fold. This is more commonly known as the lines that come down from the outer edges of the nose and around the mouth, or ‘laugh lines’.

Neck

A common complaint that we respond to is that people are unhappy with the wrinkles developing on their necks; giving patients what is colloquially known as ‘turkey neck’. Dermal fillers work to reduce the prevalence of these wrinkles and stop the turkey neck getting any worse.

Hands

Hands are not the most regularly treated area using dermal fillers, but it definitely has its benefits as hands are almost as prominent as faces! As the back of the hands lose volume, wrinkles and excess skin develop. Dermal fillers improve the volume in the skin, filling in wrinkles and reducing loose skin. This improves the look and feel of your hands, improving any confidence lost as a result of these wrinkles.
