Youth and beauty are cherished possessions not only for women, but also for men. Men all over the world are undergoing a wide range of surgeries to improve their physical appearance and this is a trend that has been on the increase.

There has been a sharp increase in the number of men undergoing cosmetic surgery over the past few years. A report published by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery shows that the number of cosmetic surgeries carried out on men has risen by over 106% during the period from 1997 to 2012.

There are two reasons as to why men opt for cosmetic surgery. One reason is the obvious reason and that is they simply want to look ‘good’. The other reason is not quite as obvious and that is to maintain their competitiveness in the job market.
We can classify men who opt for cosmetic surgery into four different types:

Models

Men in the model industry often seek to augment their jawline, want to show off their abs and go for pectoral as well as gluteal implants. An average person with good looks who undergoes jaw, cheekbone and chin enhancement procedures will suddenly have the features of a model and whose picture could appear on the front cover of a fashion magazine.

Body Builders

Body builders are very appearance orientated and also undergo the procedures mentioned above. Additionally, they want to look more muscular. They want to have big chests, glutes and higher level of muscle definition. Due to steroid use some body builders develop fatty tissues around their breasts and opt to undergo gynecomastia, a surgery for the removal of breast tissues.

Business Men

Typically, CEOs of organizations, board members of companies, etc., opt for facelift surgeries. These men who are at the top of their careers want to feel young as well as confident. A facelift includes eyelift, neck lift, recontouring of jaw line and sometimes liposuction.

Appearance Conscious Males

Men in their 40s all want to get back their college looks and while this is not possible they can reduce the ageing symptoms. With this ‘type’ of male they don’t undergo cosmetic surgery for the purpose of advancing their career; they do it as part of a makeover effort. Typically we see these men go for small eyelifts, jawline reconstruction and liposuction.
