Ageing is an inevitable process. As much as we’d all love to retain our youthful, supple skin forever, as we age, our bodies naturally start putting more energy into looking after other internal systems.

Your skin can start to exhibit signs of ageing from quite early on; as early as your twenties, in fact! It’s also your largest organ, and probably your most visible, so it’s really important to start taking care of your skin to help reduce and improve the signs of ageing as soon as possible.

Where do I start?

Knowing what to do and where to start can be daunting. But, you don’t have to do it alone!

Here at Timeless Cosmetics, we can discuss all your ageing worries and determine the best option for you. We want to help you feel confident in your skin, no matter your age.

Before thinking about looking after and treating your ageing skin, it’s a great to have an understanding how and why the skin does age.

Extrinsic ageing

Extrinsic ageing is caused by environmental and lifestyle factors. These are factors that you can control and, in doing so, potentially prevent a whole lot of skin damage and ageing.

These factors include:

  • Sun exposure
  • Smoking
  • Facial expressions (e.g., frowning)

Sun exposure

Sun exposure is the leading cause of skin damage and ageing in Australia. For many months of the year, we are exposed to high ultraviolet rays, which damage the DNA of skin cells. Constant sun exposure can lead to wrinkles and blotchiness and accelerates the ageing process, so wearing an SPF of at least fifteen every day is extremely important!

Intrinsic ageing

Intrinsic ageing refers to the natural ageing process, which (sadly!) cannot be prevented. During this process, our bodies start to lose the elastin and collagen fibres that give our skin strength and suppleness. This causes wrinkles.

You may also notice that as you or those around you get older, skin can start to sag. The subcutaneous layer (layer of fat just below the skin’s surface) is what gives the skin form and structure, and as we age, this layer thins out, causing this sagginess and loss of volume.

A reduction in the production of hyaluronic acid and the activity of the sebaceous glands (glands in the skin that secrete sebum) lessens our skin’s ability to retain moisture, which can lead to dry, dull-looking skin.

It all sounds quite overwhelming, we know! But don’t fret, there is plenty we can do here at Timeless to help you start feeling and looking younger as soon as possible.

Treatment

Wrinkle relaxers

Wrinkle relaxers are used to relax specific facial muscles that cause wrinkles. They stop the muscles from contracting, and consequently any wrinkles are unable to deepen. Any apparent lines will gradually smooth.

At Timeless Cosmetics, a wrinkle relaxer treatment is approximately a thirty-minute treatment, and discomfort is minimal. Read more about it here!

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are designed to fight skin sagginess and restore the youthful, natural contours and volume of the face. They are commonly used in the lips, cheeks, jawline and frown line.

Again, the procedure is around only thirty minutes and pain is minimal! Click here for more information.

Skincare

Daily maintenance is vital in keeping your skin young. The right skincare can decrease the development of wrinkles and keep your skin hydrated and plump. Products such as Lira Clinical’s BIO Enzyme Cleanser and BIO Caviar Crème can encourage cell renewal, hydration, repair and restoration—all awesome things that will work to keep you looking fresh-faced.
